Job Description
The Northern Forest Center (NFC) works to mobilize people to build healthy communities, economies, and ecosystems by working together across the Northern Forest region of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. Through collaborative, network-based strategies we are working to develop and promote new regional approaches for community and economic revitalization and the conservation of the Northern Forest landscape. With funding from the federal Economic Development Administration and the support of all four Northern Forest governors, NFC has embarked on a multi-year initiative to develop a strategic blueprint for sustainable, place-based economic development in the Northern Forest. The Project Coordinator will guide the development and implementation of projects, activities, and research that comprise the Sustainable Economic Initiative. Under the direction of NFC's Vice President and Program Director, and in close partnership with other NFC staff, she/he will: Convene, facilitate, and provide staff support for 2 to 4 working groups, the nature and specific focus of which will vary but will fall generally into the areas of: forest products; heritage and nature-based tourism; renewable energy; the knowledge economy; capital investment; and community involvement. Manage communications, priority-setting, work planning, resource allocation, and other tasks to enable each group to identify and begin implementation of specific projects. Develop a deep familiarity with the topic matter of each assigned working group, through regular communications with group members and other experts, reviews of relevant literature, and new research as needed. Deliver written and oral presentations on the content of your working groups to other audiences on a regular basis. Serve as a member of the project management team and with other staff ensure the coordination of activities among different working groups. Assist the Program Director with communications, grant management, administrative, and other daily tasks associated with the Initiative.
Job Qualifications
Three years experience and a graduate degree in any of the following or a related field preferred: community development, economics, natural resources, social science, and/or public policy. More than any particular experience or degree, we seek a fast learner with a demonstrated ability to enthusiastically tackle new material and ideas. Excellent inter-personal skills and an ability to work well and foster collaboration among a wide range of people. Training or experience in facilitation a plus. Excellent writing skills. Understanding of and enthusiasm and patience for long-term systemic change processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and web-based communications and research. Ability to travel regularly throughout the region.
