This position is located at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Laurel, Maryland. The incumbent serves as the Landscape Ecologist specializing in the design and implementation of remote sensing/geographic information systems (GIS) applications which are used in the construction of dynamic models of migratory bird populations. Models that are used to estimate population size and investigate the causes of population change. The incumbent is the primary authority in geo-spatial processing, spatial configuration and image analysis and advises population and habitat specialists on technical aspects and utilities of current data and imagery sources and classification and analysis techniques for meeting programmatic monitoring needs. The incumbent designs, operates, and analyzes data from integrated hardware/software systems supporting the direct geo-referencing of digital aerial imagery.
Job Qualifications
Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience is typically in or related to the work of the position described. Status applicants must also meet time-in grade and/or time after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
