Job Description
Main Functions:
Develops and delivers field trip and afterschool programs on a variety of science topics, and engages museum visitors through hands-on science activities and demonstrations. Works collaboratively with others on special museum projects including grant projects, summer camp, teen programs and teacher professional development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Development and Delivery. Develops and delivers inquiry-based school field trip and afterschool enrichment programs for elementary audiences. Develops, evaluates and delivers hands-on science activities and demonstrations for public audiences at the museum.
Summer Camp. Co-coordinates Sciencenter summer camp program. Assists in hiring and overseeing temporary summer camp staff, delivers programs, and coordinates with community partners and presenters. Oversees counselor-in-training (CIT) component of camp.
Grant Projects. Participates as project team member and collaborates with staff from Education and other departments on grant-funded projects to develop educational materials and/or science content for traveling exhibitions.
Support for Special Projects. Assists Education department staff in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, including teacher professional development and depth programming for teens.
Event Support. Provides general support to Education, Advancement and Visitor Services and Operations departments by assisting with special events and outreach initiatives. Contributes toward the overall vision and planning of the educational programming at the Sciencenter.
Working Conditions:
Non-profit, informal educational organization. Fast-paced environment with many, varied, simultaneous projects. Must work well in both an individual and team setting. Some carrying and lifting of educational materials, tables, and chairs.
Time Commitment:
Full time (40+ hr/wk) exempt position. Periodic travel to schools and other organizations within ~50-mile radius.Supervision of Others:
Program contract staff, interns and/or volunteers, as appropriate.
