Job Description
MAJOR DUTIES:
This is a developmental position where the incumbent will be cross-trained in the work performed by both FWS Special Agents and Wildlife Inspectors. Employee will be assigned projects and training details to develop the employee’s knowledge and understanding of the principles, concepts, regulations and operating techniques of the FWS Office of Law Enforcement.
The employee is assigned to a range of investigation projects, typically involving complex and sensitive investigations of violations of wildlife laws. The employee is assigned to projects in support of the wildlife inspection program, particularly in regards to intelligence gathering and risk assessment.
Employee assists in the process of gathering facts and information on persons or entities of interest to investigations, adhering to legal restrictions associated with information resources and handling of resulting data. Employee assists in the review and analysis of evidentiary documents obtained through Grand Jury subpoena or legal seizure, to include the preparation of case-related documents, exhibits, and correspondence that will be introduced as evidence. Employee assists in the review of import/export documents to facilitate the clearance of lawful trade and to document and interdict unlawful shipments.
Employee provides administrative support to Office of Law Enforcement staff members, and performs other duties as assigned.
At the GS-7 level, duties will be performed under closer supervision and training provided for progression towards the full performance level.
During the two year internship period, assignments will be provided to prepare the employee to assume a GS-11 level specialist position within the Office of Law Enforcement (e.g. Wildlife Inspector, GS-1801-11 or related position).
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
A. GS-7: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service; (OR) one full year of progressively higher level graduate education or superior academic achievement; (OR) an equivalent combination of education and experience. To be creditable, education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
B. GS-9: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in Federal service; (OR) two full years of progressively higher level graduate education, or a master's or equivalent graduate degree; (OR) an equivalent combination of education and experience. To be creditable, education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
C. Combination of education and experience as described in "A" and "B" above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours (or equivalent) earned towards your degree and divide by 120 semester hours (or equivalent). Then take the number of months of full time applicable experience you have had and divide by 12. Add the two percentages. The total must equal at least 100 percent in order to qualify.

Specialized experience is experience working with law enforcement information systems involving criminal and/or civil investigative matters, or experience in analyzing data to find facts relative to law enforcement investigations and preparing reports.
