Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- advise governments and development partners on the design, appraisal and implementation support of investment operations in the fields of agriculture and natural resources;
- advise governments and development partners on the implementation of agricultural sector and sub-sector studies;
- evaluate agricultural and natural resources sector strategies, plans and operations for investment implications, technical, financial and environmental feasibility and compliance with national strategic objectives, make recommendations for future investments;
- lead the assessment of the constraints and opportunities of different agricultural environments with emphasis on the functionality of: markets, support services, institutions and organisations; risk management systems and private sector engagement;
- analyse and make recommendations for further enhancement of the farming systems; formulate development and livelihood options; and assess their likely impact and adoption;
- prepare clear and concise reports in line with the requirements of governments and financing partners;
- advise the Service Chief on tasks' management, field mission organization and terms of reference, selection of consultants and supervision of their work; and in ensuring the quality of the Service outputs;
- take responsibility for some Service management tasks, such as thematic and country groups/networks, or cooperation programmes with FAO partners;
- represent the Organization at meetings with senior government officials, development partners and beneficiaries to facilitate exchange of critical information and validate the findings and recommendations regarding the investment proposals;
- perform other related duties as required.
Job Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
- Advanced university degree in agriculture, or closely related field
- Ten years of relevant experience in the planning and implementing agricultural development projects and programmes, including elaboration of feasibility studies and relevant field work in developing and/or transition countries
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two, or Arabic or Chinese or Russian
Salary
Level P-5 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US 113,676 to 133,950 (without dependants) and from US 122,364 to 145,368 (with dependants)
