Job Description
Nature Publishing Group is looking for a dynamic, organized and creative science graduate with a background in cell biology or biochemistry to staff the post of Online Editor for the Functional Glycomics Gateway and the forthcoming LIPID MAPS Gateway. The successful applicant will have well honed communication and writing skills.
The Functional Gateway is a freely accessible online publication widely read by the research community. It encompasses editorial content updated monthly on recent research, news and events, and databases of research findings. The Gateways are an innovative publication of a type that is becoming increasingly important in academic publishing, and we are looking for someone who is eager to further establish them as key information resources for researchers.
The Editor will take responsibility for demanding editorial tasks in launching the LIPID MAPS Gateway and in updating both Gateways each month to high editorial and scientific standards. The role involves writing summaries of key research developments, liaising with external scientific partners and the editorial teams of Nature journals.
Job Qualifications
The successfull applicant will have, or will be shortly expecting to receive, a PhD in a cell biology or biochemistry related discipline, and will have a broad understanding of roles of sugars lipids in cells. A sound knowledge of good web practice and a passion for the exploitation of the medium as a means of scientific communication are crucial. Scientific editing or copy editing experience would be beneficial but are not required.

- The ability to organize and juggle a varied workload under pressure and to work quickly and efficiently without direct supervision.
