Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Regularly assess user needs and expectations with regard to information on forest resources, products and institutions as well as opportunities to enhance data collection and dissemination through internal or external partnerships;
- Provide advice and technical assistance to countries for the elaboration of national reports for the Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) programme, as requested;
- Participate in the coordination and implementation of selected special studies related to the FRA programme;
- Further develop/strengthen networks of national correspondents to the FRA process; support existing regional and sub-regional networks on forest monitoring and assessment and foster exchange of information and experiences among countries; foster strategic alliances and partnership with regional key partners;
- Spearhead the outreach activities of the FRA programme including communication with external stakeholders, partners and end-users; public relations; parternship building; dissemination of information through various media - including an active website on the FRA programme - aimed at various audiences; liaise with other FAO staff within and outside the Forestry Department on matters in their specific technical fields;
- Plan and participate in expert consultations, technical meetings and workshops at national, regional and global level;
- Perform other related duties as required.
Job Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- University Degree in Forestry or a related field
- Five years of relevant experience in the field of international forestry and assessment of forest resources, products and institutions including experience in networking and outreach at international level
- Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated expertise in forest assessment, networking and partnership building
- Relevance of international experience in forestry and forest resources assessment
- Extent of working experience in developing countries and knowledge of their forests
- Demonstrated ability in the organization and conduct of meetings, workshops and training sessions
- Quality of both oral and written communication skills on technical issues
- Maturity, initiative and drive, high sense of responsibility, ability to effectively plan and organize work
- Extent of language skills
Salary
Level P-3 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US 94,072 to US 121,060 (without dependants) and from US 100,780 to US 130,154 (with dependants)
