JOB ROLE: To maintain insect and disease free crops for our customers through various IPM strategies, while also maintaining a safe working environment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Accurately and then efficiently scout all growing areas and sticky cards for insect and disease pressures. Then work with the Site Managers and PLM's to develop action steps to correct these problems.
2. Set up and maintain a spray rotation with all necessary equipment with the direction and recommendations of the Lead grower and Site Managers.
3. Maintain an accurate inventory of all chemicals and fertilizers. Make recommendations on chemical and fertilizer ordering based on past and future use.
4. Research and test all new chemicals before they are put into regular use.
5. Make sure all Spray applications & Biological releases are made accurately and on schedule without instruction.
6. Make sure all equipment is maintained and cleaned properly.
7. Responsible for maintaining and implementing our Respiratory protocol.
8. Ensure that all Spray documentation is completed accurately. Make sure this is communicated thoroughly with all departments.
9. Develop a working understanding of the environment computer so that basic functions essential to greenhouse spray applications can be performed.
10. Learn from the PLM's to pass on and train insect and disease monitoring instructions, spray techniques, & other related information to the growing staff in order to build a top-notch spray team.
11. Maintain adequate communication with the Site mgrs. & PLM's.
12. Keep MSDS book up to date. Maintain properly all spray application documents.
13. Maintain your Michigan Private Applicator Certification. Also, keep accurate list of growers with pesticide certification.
Job Qualifications
Candidates are required to have a basic knowledge of IPM practices (Scouting, Pesticides, Biologicals, & Equipment). Must have strong leadership and communication skills. Experience in Greenhouse growing is also a plus.
