Job Description
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: As staff of Cornell University Cooperative Extension—NYC (CUCENYC), serve as an integral member of the Urban Environment Program Area to assist and support the planning, implementation and evaluation of education program initiatives with diverse audiences in urban community and other settings, as well as initiate and conduct program and administrative support activities and tasks to address needs and accomplish objectives of the Program Area. Under the guidance
and direction of academic staff, provide subject matter and process skills expertise in environmental sciences and natural resources, and science education. Area education programs are currently focused on environmental horticulture/forestry, air quality, greening and open space, biological diversity and urban wildlife/ecology, outdoor environment and adventures learning, sustainable design and development, etc.
Supervision provided by Extension Associate, Urban Environment Program Area. Collaborate with Program Area staff and project teams, as well as with local non-profit organizations, government agencies, faculty and staff to assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation, as needed, of programs that respond to local needs and support organization and program area objectives and commitments. Promote CUCE-NYC’s mission, objectives and impact.
Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors of Science degree required in environmental or natural resources sciences; Masters of Science degree desired. Academic focus on horticulture, and/or forestry is strongly desired. At least 3 – 5 years of progressive professional work experience planning and implementing programs in related environmental fields, as well as in community education (internships/volunteer work will be considered). Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communications and presentation skills. Proficiency with electronic technology (i.e., word processing, database management, electronic
communication, Internet) required. Demonstrated ability to conduct research review and compilation of relevant information. Ability to take direction from supervisor and area leader, work collaboratively and effectively as a member of a program team and other diverse groups as well as independently on assignments, as appropriate to the specified task. Demonstrated ability to initiate and manage multiple tasks and assignments, meeting deadlines and adhering to detail, quality and accuracy. Willingness to travel in a variety of NYC communities and the region. Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend time commitments. Spanish speaking and writing skills and abilities are desired.
