Job Description
The Nutrition Unit at the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center is seeking highly qualified candidates for a permanent, full-time research position at a GS12/13 level dependent on qualifications.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for developing a research program focused on nutritional regulation of expression of the genome. Emphasis will be given to traits associated with production efficiency in beef cattle. The objective of the research program is to characterize nutritional regulation of genome expression in live stock. The successful candidate is responsible for developing hypotheses and approaches, interpreting the results of the research program, and developing applications that will be beneficial to beef cattle producers in selection of germplasm and management programs to match their production environments.
Job Qualifications
The position requires a professional knowledge of nutrition, metabolism, biochemistry, and molecular genetics. Demonstrated skills in molecular biology techniques including those applicable to nucleic acid, protein and downstream products of metabolism (lipids, carbohydrates) are needed. A high level of creativity and originality is required to develop and conduct the research program. Methodologies may include a) measures of expression of genes at transcription, translation, post-translation, and metabolic levels, b)measures of molecular phenotypes associated with function of metabolic systems, and c)identifying causative effects and mechanisms including nutritional and environmental factors that contribute to epigenetics. Successful candidate will be expected to function as a member and leader in multidisciplinary research teams.
