Job Description
The Tropical Agriculture and Rural Environment Program of the Earth Institute at Columbia University is seeking a Soil Science Research Assistant to assist the Director, Dr. Pedro Sanchez, in the development of the second edition of his "Properties and Management of Soils in the Tropics" book, and assist in compiling information on other issues as requested.
Responsibilities will include assembling releavant literature on tropical soils according to the 13 chapters of the book, summarize information and input key data tables, graphs and maps that may be suitable for quotation. Compile such information in End Note, including organizing all existing hard copies (books and files) in TropAg library. Write first draft sections of book chapters as indicated. Compile literature citations, proof read, and format text and obtain permissions of copyright materials. Compile relevant information and respond to queries by the Director relative to soil science, tropical agriculture and the environment.

Job Qualifications
MS degree or equivalent in soil science.
Professional experience in tropical soils.
Attention to detail is a must.
Ability to synthesize with minimum supervision.
Excellent writing skills in English.
Ability to read soil science articles in French is a must.
Spanish and Portuguese highly desirable.
Ability to work as a team member and interact successfully with peoples of different cultures.
Position is funded for 3 years.
