Job Description

-Supervises borough horticulture staff and support personnel including workfare participants in field operations including planting, pruning and removals, composting, reseeding and landscape renovations
-Possesses thorough working knowledge of turf, woody and herbaceous plants, their culture, usage in the urban landscape
-Able to supervise and direct volunteers, workfare and seasonal workers
-Operates and maintains power equipment like mowers, weedwackers, trimmers and blowers
-Handles pesticide applications
-Maintains and requisitions supplies

Job Qualifications

-Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with major study in horticulture, arboriculture, landscape architecture or related field and one year of satisfactory field experience
-A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience
-Ability to obtain a NYS Department of Environmental Conservation pesticide applicator license Category 3A: Ornamentals and and Turf
-Valid driver's license and safe driving history
-Able to work in groups and individually
